Description of Professional Services
Water system feasibility study to evaluate mobile home park present water system, which serves nine mobile homes and a few off-park residences. The system was old, undersized and experienced leaking and pressure problems. Provided services to identify present system for pipe location, age, size leakage and pressure problems. Redesigned system to remove safety and health hazards, provide Town access to water system, proximity of water supply lines to individual septic tanks and lines, detailed construction cost estimates to implement the plans developed. Approached evaluation on basis that a new mini system should be designed, constructed within one or two access roads to avoid “cross-lot” distribution lines to minimize access/maintenance constraints. Prepared updated base map, preliminary plan layout of proposed water system, final plan, preliminary profile, and summary of estimated project cost and researched available and potential funding sources.
Final Design and Construction Management of Water System
Based on the Water Feasibility Study previously completed, final plans of water system were designed. Project involved increasing size of existing water main from 6-inch to 8-inch, and adding to 2 new 4-inch water mains in two roadways off the main entrance road. Managed sub-surface exploration, and arranged for borehole drilling (13 holes) to locate bedrock and depth to groundwater; results from borehole investigations were incorporated into plans. Water main was designed to meet the Clients needs in terms of materials and construction; the water main material, as requested by the Client, was entirely High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and HDPE fittings. Consulted with supplier of this material and designed plans and specifications with latest HDPE fittings and fusion technology of joining pipes and fittings.
- 950 feet of 8-inch HDPE water main to replace an existing 6-inch CI water main
- 590 feet of 4-inch HDPE water main
- 1,040 feet of 1-inch HDPE water service line
- 25 new curb stops, 12 new water meters in pits, one air release valve and 2 blow-off valves
- 1,575 of new roadway (bituminous concrete) reconstruction
Following design phase provided bidding phase and construction management services. Checked qualifications of low bidder, and made recommendation to Town for selection of low bid Contractor. Provided complete construction management and construction observation services. Worked with Contractor to keep project within budget and schedule during construction phase. Back to Top
