Description of Professional Services

The Town of Wolfeboro and the Crescent Lake Association contracted DuBois & King to provide assessment and design for the reconstruction of a 15-foot-high, 130-foot-long cut stone masonry dam with a 20-foot-wide central timber section. Crescent Lake dam creates 3,166 acres of water resource which is used for recreation and flood control.

DuBois & King performed field survey, sub-surface exploration, field survey and sub-surface explorations, detailed hydrological, hydraulic and stability analyses. Engineering Report identified conceptual alternatives and cost estimates to address rehabilitation of structurally inadequate timber section and gates. Recommended additional improvements included; spillway enlargement, repair or replace low and mid-level gates, provide overtopping protection, new pedestrian walkway over dam, dam stabilization, new gatehouse. Dam operational enhancements such as automated water level monitor with remote readout and automated gate controls with and without remote operational control capabilities were also non-mandated dam improvements.

Engineering drawings were developed for a new concrete dam to replace existing timber section and new concrete right abutment wall, new concrete drop inlet structure and new gatehouse with concrete foundation, two 31/2 -foot-square service gates automated with remote operational control capabilities and automated water level monitor with remote readout.

D&K Water Resources team coordinated with the local Conservation Commission, NHDES, Wetlands Bureau, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for project comment. Survey identified a lack of boundary descriptions of the Town's two right-of-ways to the east and west sides of the dam. Team surveyors met with Town and land owners on each property to locate agreed upon boundaries of two right-of-ways allowing surveyors to set boundary pins.

Construction phase services included arranging and attending pre-bid meeting at site and answering questions from bidders; arranging and attending preconstruction meeting with selected contractor to discuss schedule, job parameters and responsibilities, scheduling and attending periodic site meetings to discuss status, progress and quality of project. Performed full-time site inspection, review of shop drawings and progress payment requests, prepare change orders, as-built drawings, and Operations and Maintenance Manual.
