Description of Professional Services

The Pennichuck Brook and its watershed have been a source of drinking water for Nashua, New Hampshire since 1890 when a long earth dam was constructed to impound Holt Pond. DuBois & King's water resource engineers were retained to complete an assessment, design, construction management and inspection for reconstruction of the dam.

D&K Service Highlights
  • Hydrology and hydraulics analysis of the Pennichuck Brook and watershed.
  • Geotechnical: subsurface investigation, supervised drilling and testing, flow net analysis, estimated seepage rate, designed mineral toe drain filter, slope stability analysis of embankment.
  • Structural analysis and design: retaining walls, new concrete ogee spillway, spillway slab, exit channel.
  • Permitting: NH DES Dam Safety Permit, Wetlands Permit, Dredge & Fill Permit and local permits.
  • Construction phase services: resident inspection, record drawings.
Of note:
The project, from design through construction, was completed in about 14 months.
