Ryegate Fire District No. 2 Water System Improvements

Final design, bid phase, and construction phase services for community water system improvements to bring the system into compliance with the Water Supply Rule. The design included standby chlorine disinfection with retention tanks, master water meter, water main relocation/extension, and solutions for controlling and monitoring source vulnerable. Prepared contract documents, technical specifications, construction cost estimate, and Permit to Construct application. Coordinated with owner, Northeast Rural Water Association, and the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources throughout the duration of the project. Provided bid phase and contractor procurement assistance and periodic construction inspection services.

Piper Ridge Water System Improvements

DuBois & King performed an engineering evaluation and design of improvements for the Piper Ridge water system in Winhall, Vermont. The original 25-year-old water system served an 89-unit residential development and was in need of improvements to comply with State standards.

Services provided during the preliminary engineering phase investigations included identifying deficiencies and alternatives for improvements, establishing an opinion of probable costs, screening potential funding alternatives, and developing an implementation schedule. The findings, conclusions, and recommendations were summarized in a Preliminary Engineering Report. Objectives of the design emphasized establishing cost-effective solutions to avoid the need to construct additional water storage volume, replace/upsize large portions of the distribution system, or to construct costly chlorine contact time improvements.

Eastman Water Treatment Facility Improvements

DuBois & King was retained by the Village District of Eastman to provide engineering design and support for a design-build approach to upgrade and expand its existing 0.675 MGD water treatment facility. The upgrade included an addition onto the existing water treatment building; installation of new LP fueled stand-by generators; electrical and mechanical (HVAC) upgrades; reconfiguration of inlet piping; installation of a new master water meter, chemical feed systems, and piping improvements (caustic, potassium permanganate, hypochlorite); and a new/expanded chemical lab/office configuration. The Tonkla green sand pressure filter facility provides treatment for iron and manganese removal.

Scope of services included preparation of a new SCADA system performance specification and installation coordination with controls contractor. D&K worked with the Village District director, water operator, and contractor throughout the design-build project. Scope of work included preparation of construction drawings, details and specifications, periodic construction inspection, and substantial/final completion inspections and certifications.

CEDA Industrial Park Utilities Replacement

Selected for two simultaneous Industrial Park Improvements for water and sewer line replacements and infrastructure improvements at the CEDA Industrial Park. One project included replacement of 1,400 ft of waterline with 8 inch HDPE. The other project involved design of a new 1,000 ft access road including related water, sanitary and sewer, and power/communications systems.

Services included topographic survey, layout of the proposed water line, preparation of final roadway and utility design construction documents, sedimentation and erosion control plan, construction specifications, permitting, and bid and construction phase services. Design was delivered within a short time frame (30 days) to meet owner objectives for late fall construction start and completion of the water and sewer line replacements before winter shut down. This was a 100% CDBG funded project. Successful delivery of the design on time and bid documents with strategic bid alternatives allowed the owner to construct all aspects of the project.

Beanville Road Water and Sewer Extension

DuBois & King provided design and construction engineering services for a the Beanville Road Water and Sewer Extension, a project that included a new municipal pump station, 2,400 ft of 3-inch forcemain, 900 lf of 8-inch water main, 300 lf of 8-inch gravity sewer, manholes, cleanouts, valves, and other appurtenances. The project was funded and constructed as part of a CDBG grant program in conjunction with a specialty food production facility. The project extends the Town’s municipal water and sewer services and will make these services accessible to the industrial park on Beanville Road. Professional services included:

Preliminary engineering/basis for design
Subsurface work (borings, etc.)
Preparation of plans and specifications
Permitting assistance
Pre- and post -bid assistance
Project progress meetings
Construction phase services
Preparation of as-builts
Preparation of operations and maintenance manual
Start-up assistance
