VTrans Safe Routes to School

 

Selected for consecutive retainer contracts to assist VTrans and schools statewide to implement the Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS). Services provided were developed in accordance with the Federal SRTS Program. The purposes of the SRTS program are to enable and encourage children to walk and bicycle to school; make bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age; and facilitate planning, development, and implementation of projects and activities that improve safety and reduce or calm traffic in the vicinity of schools. Specific assignments include:

Bicycle and Pedestrian Feasibility Study, Bristol. Feasibility study for several bicycle and pedestrian improvements including bicycle and pedestrian accommodation on Pine Street, traffic and bicycle/pedestrian circulation in and around the Bristol Elementary School on Mountain Street, and evaluation of alternatives for a shared use path along Stony Hill Road/Lovers Lane.

West Pleasant Street Sidewalk Design, Bristol. Evaluation/design of a 425-ft sidewalk along West Pleasant Street within Bristol Village, including two crosswalks.

VT 116 Sidewalk and Streetscape Improvements, Hinesburg. Conceptual through final design of 1,100 ft of sidewalk, on-street parking, and streetscape improvements along the west side of VT 116. The sidewalk will connect the downtown area and neighborhoods to the Hinesburg Elementary School.

Vine Street Signing and Pavement Marking Design, Northfield. Engineering services to evaluate and design signing and pavement markings on Vine Street in the vicinity of the Northfield Schools.

Brush Hill Road Signing and Pavement Marking Design, Williamstown. Evaluation/design for signing and pavement markings on Brush Hill Road in the vicinity of the Williamstown School. The project also included the installation of a radar speed feedback sign.

Technical Assistance to Schools Statewide. Technical assistance to several schools to help determine what infrastructure improvements could best address their needs. D&K met with each school to discuss their needs, ideas, and concepts, and then prepared a letter summarizing recommendations and the associated costs for design and construction of the improvements. This assistance was provided so that each school could apply for an infrastructure grant.

VTrans Roadway and Safety

 

On-call retainer contract with the Vermont Agency of Transportation to assist with the development of roadway, intersection, and other safety related transportation projects throughout the State. Projects include:

Route 100 Roadway Corridor, Plymouth to Bridgewater. 10.6 miles of roadway improvement design through the Towns of Plymouth and Bridgewater. Services addressed pavement reclamation, overlay and rehabilitation, drainage assessments and improvements, guardrail improvements, bridge joint replacements, pavement markings, and roadway sign updates. Services included field survey, base mapping, engineering design, geotechnical design, slope stability design and plan development, permitting, and cost/quantity estimation. All design services were completed in accordance with VTrans Standards including use of English units and Microstation/InRoads.

Route 100 Roadway Corridor, Stockbridge to Rochester. 7.8 miles of roadway improvement design through the Towns of Stockbridge and Rochester. Services addressed pavement reclamation, overlay and rehabilitation, drainage assessments and improvements, guardrail improvements, bridge joint replacements, pavement markings, and roadway sign updates. Services included field survey, base mapping, engineering design, geotechnical design, slope stability design and plan development, permitting, and cost/quantity estimation. All design services were completed in accordance with VTrans Standards including use of English units and Microstation/InRoads.

Feasibility Study for Statewide Driver Training Facility. Feasibility Study for potential site locations, facility size, needs of potential users, environmental impacts, permitting, and noise impacts for Statewide Driver Training Facility. Facility is planned for use by State police, fire and safety personnel, student and elderly drivers, and VTrans staff. Potential site location is Vermont Technical College.

VTrans Molly’s Falls Brook Relocation

 

The Cabot-Danville US Route 2 highway safety improvements project required 200-ft of Molly’s Falls Brook to be relocated. Extensive stakeholder coordination began at site inspection, with representatives from Vermont’s Agency of Transportation and Department of Fish & Wildlife. DuBois & King formulated a conceptual design and met with the Vermont River Management Program. Professional services included:

Data collection and analysis
Design of a new channel
Preparation of a topographic basemap
Documentation of the existing channel
HEC-RAS model to predict water surface elevations up to 100-yr level
Design of stone cross vanes to sustain aquatic species
Preservation of selected trees for immediate riparian cover

VTrans Highway Resurfacing

 

Ongoing and successive, multi-year retainer contracts for design services for roadway improvement projects throughout the State. Services include design for pavement reclamation, overlay and rehabilitation, drainage assessments and improvements, guardrail improvements, bridge joint replacements, bridge railing replacements, pavement markings, and roadway sign updates. Services include field survey, base mapping, engineering design and plans development, permitting, and cost/quantity estimation. All design services are completed in accordance with VTrans Standards including use of English units and Microstation/InRoads. D&K transportation engineers have completed the design of over 150 miles of roadway improvements.

VTrans Environmental Services

 

DuBois & King has been providing continuous environmental and permit assistance services to VTrans under consecutive retainer contracts for over 16 years. D&K has provided natural resources identification and documentation, impact assessment, mitigation design, and permit related services including all levels of NEPA documentation for complex, high profile transportation projects such as the Bennington Bypass.

Under successive contracts for General Environmental Services with VTrans, DuBois & King has provided a broad range of environmental services for transportation projects including: wildlife habitat assessment/mitigation, wetland delineation/permitting/mitigation, water quality assessment, Section 401 water quality certification, stormwater design/permitting (Section 404 and Conditional Use Determination), construction stormwater permitting, natural stream design/permitting, Act 250 assistance, Stream Alteration permitting (Title 19), visual analysis/landscape design, floodplain analysis, local site plan/conditional use approvals for mitigation sites, and construction observation/monitoring.
