Senior Bridges Engineer

 

DuBois & King is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer with 8 or more years of experience working on municipal and state highway bridge projects. The position will be responsible for technical task management, leading bridge design tasks, staff development, and assist with business development. The position will play a key role in the development and growth of our employee-owned firm, which is well-known and respected throughout New England and elsewhere in the United States.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Structural design codes including AASHTO LRFD and AASHTO LRFR
  • Structure design software including MIDAS,
  • Familiarity with providing services to NHDOT and/or VTrans
  • Ability to mentor and develop staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within fast-paced, team-oriented workplace.
  • Completing and checking complex engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates for the designs of concrete and precast decks, steel and concrete superstructures, integral and semi-integral abutments, wingwalls, culverts and retaining walls.
  • Management of technical tasks and relevant staff.
  • Provide operational and project management support to the bridge lead.
  • Provide technical development of a variety of bridge projects of various sizes and designs.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final design documents.
  • Oversee work, quality control, client coordination and all daily technical aspects of projects assigned to you.

Qualifications:

  • 8 plus years of experience in Bridge Engineering
  • BS/MS in Civil Engineering
  • PE License preferred
  • Demonstrated technical experience
  • Micro-station and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO Design Guidelines

Compensation Range:

The salary range for this position is $125,000 – $175,000, plus employees may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Construction Services Program Lead

 

DuBois & King is seeking a Construction Services Program Lead with 15+ years of experience.  This is a full-time, salaried position that can be based in our Vermont or New Hampshire offices. 

This position will oversee construction phase services, resident and inspection staff, and coordinate with engineering divisions to provide construction adjacent tasks during non-construction months, managing the workload for the entire Construction Group. This includes internal and external business development, and alignment of Group goals and tasks to our engineering division’s differing needs.  

Business Development Responsibilities 

  • Establish and maintain a solid working relationship with clients, including former clients and municipalities’ region-wide. 
  • Perform networking activities. 
  • Prepare agreements for construction phase services including determination of labor and reimbursable expense cost; Including fee development and negotiation of fees. 
  • Prepare proposals in response to RFP’s for construction phase services 
  • Contact and market construction phase services to communities, private enterprises, state and federal agencies. 
  • Maintain and/or improve procedures/protocol for managing the construction services department. 

 

Supervisory Requirements 

  • Hire and supervise construction observation and field office staff 
  • Develop and maintain team construction observation standards 
  • Develop staffing plans and schedules to meet workload requirements, delivering quality service in compliance with client requirements and expectations 
  • Be able to follow and adhere to all local, state and federal OSHA requirements 
  • Provide advice to in-house design staff regarding constructability 
  • Work collaboratively with other D&K staff, mentoring and training of junior staff to encourage involvement with design reviews, cost estimating, specification preparation, and promotion of construction phase services 
  • Manage sub-consultants 

 

Project Responsibilities
Perform construction phase administrator tasks such as: 

  • Review work identified in the project drawings and specifications 
  • Manage quality control of construction services 
  • Manage bid phase activities 
  • Manage submittal reviews 
  • Review contractor payment applications and prepare change orders 
  • Perform constructability and bid-ability reviews 
  • Prepare documents for execution 
  • Conduct preconstruction and biweekly meetings 
  • Manage project closeout activities 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 15+ years of experience managing construction projects 
  • Strong preference for experience in Consulting Engineering, or similar fields 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred, but not required 
  • Experience with public and private sector clients 
  • Experience leading and managing a team 
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time 
  • Connections to New England with an understanding of local construction and geologic conditions 
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this role 
  • Strong writing and verbal skills 

Compensation Range: 

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000, plus employees may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Resident Engineer & Inspector

 

DuBois & King, Inc. (D&K) is seeking junior to senior level Resident Engineers/Inspectors for 2026 construction projects across the Northeast. D&K has an exciting and interesting backlog of projects slated for the upcoming construction season that will make a difference in the lives of our communities and our clients.  These projects may involve observation of work related to utilities, roadways, highways, bridges, dams, and airports. 

Responsibilities 

  • Must be able to read and comprehend construction documents (plans and specifications).  
  • Understand and work within the limits of Resident Engineer roles and responsibilities. 
  • Represent the firm in a professional manner at all times in front of contractors, owners, funding agencies, and the public.   
  • Observe and document construction progress through the preparation of daily field reports, observing materials testing, tracking installed quantities, and maintaining a photographic record. 
  • Participate in the review of periodic payment requests and change orders. 
  • Chair progress meetings and prepare minutes. 
  • Understand and enforce quality requirements in accordance with the contract documents. 
  • Communicate proactively with the project team and manage time effectively. 
  • Accept feedback in a professionally appropriate and thoughtful manner. 
  • Lead by example via an exemplary work ethic. 
  • Regular and predictable attendance with reliable transportation. 

Qualifications 

  • Five (5) years related field experience is preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience with municipal water and wastewater, NETTCP, ACI, AASHTO,  VTrans, NHDOT, and/or FAA Standards is preferred, but not required. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is required.  

Compensation Range 

The salary range for this position is $32 to $45 an hour. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable employment laws.

Civil Dam Project Engineer

 
DuBois & King, Inc. (D&K) is seeking a Civil Project Engineer with 5–15 years of experience to join our rapidly growing Dam Engineering Group. This multidisciplinary team specializes in hydrologic and hydraulic, geotechnical, and structural engineering for dam infrastructure throughout the Northeast.
Our projects include dam rehabilitation, dam safety evaluations, and regulatory compliance services for private, municipal, hydroelectric, state, and federal clients. We are seeking a motivated engineer who is interested in helping expand the group’s technical capacity and market presence while leading meaningful infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships within D&K and with external clients to support continued growth of the dam engineering practice
  • Managing and engineering dam-related projects primarily in New England and throughout the northeastern United States under municipal, state, and federal contracts
  • Performing engineering analyses and design related to dam structures, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, geotechnical analysis, and structural evaluation
  • Managing project teams and providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineering staff
This position is expected to function as, or grow into, a design team leader and project manager within the Dam Engineering Group.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, or the ability to obtain licensure within 12 months, in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or higher
  • Ability to work from either the South Burlington, Vermont or Holyoke, Massachusetts office
  • Ability to travel throughout New England.
Preferred experience with:
  • AutoCAD / Civil 3D
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS
  • GeoStudio (Seep/W and Slope/W)
  • Vermont and New Hampshire Dam Safety Regulations
  • Federal dam safety guidance and regulatory frameworks
D&K is particularly interested in candidates with experience in seepage and slope stability modeling using GeoStudio software.  It is expected that this role will include learning and mentorship of dam engineering from current senior staff to function as/grow into a design team leader.
