Sustainability

The critical need for forward-thinking solutions to address essential issues, such as climate change, never ends. At D&K, we strive to integrate sustainable and resilient solutions into our daily project work and our operations. Sustainability can take many forms. Many of our projects are focused on retrofitting built environments; many others are aimed specifically at enhancing and protecting the natural environment. We believe these efforts benefit our clients, our company, the environment, and society at large. While the work of D&K professionals is diverse, most of our projects include a focus on sustainability or resiliency.

Our projects are aimed at reducing the use of fossil fuels and decarbonizing energy in buildings; designing renewable hydro and solar generation facilities; planning green stormwater; restoring ecosystems; designing flood-resilient infrastructure; incorporating native landscaping; evaluating walking, biking, public transportation, and electric vehicle infrastructure; and designing low-maintenance infrastructure.

D&K engineers, planners, and scientists are passionate about reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our natural resources. Our project teams continually focus on sustainable design in its many forms as we seek to provide a healthy and safe environment in our communities.

Many of D&K’s clients—in areas such as healthcare, government, and higher education—recognize the ever-increasing importance of integrating sustainable practices into their day-to-day operations and have placed a high priority on achieving demonstrable results. Similarly, D&K seeks to minimize our own impact. We monitor our own consumption of energy, water, and consumable office products throughout our offices and implement energy and cost-saving practices across the firm.
