D&K’s water resource and structural engineers, scientists, permitting specialists, and surveyors collaborate with dam owners, communities, and conservation organizations to upgrade water infrastructure and maintain ecosystem health. D&K’s team members engage directly with diverse audiences to support dam, dike, and levee rehabilitation, flood resiliency, and dam removal projects.
We provide cost-effective solutions that improve natural channel function by removing dams and facilitating aquatic organism passage and sediment transfer. Our teams design fish ladders and AOP-friendly crossings. Using native stone, plantings, and materials such as root wads, step pools, and rock vanes, our teams restore riverine channels and riparian zones and restore the health of individual waters. We also prepare plans supporting emergency flood recovery and community resiliency.
DuBois & King provides investigation, analysis, planning, design, and construction phase services to advance dam safety projects across the Northeast. We have significant experience rehabilitating concrete, earth, stone, and timber crib dams.
D&K engineers design projects to improve spillway capacity and embankment stability using practices that include high-efficiency spillways, labyrinth weirs, ACBs, and geocells. Other design elements include intakes, stilling basins, toe drains, armoring, gates, boat access, and low-level outlets. Our services include dam assessments, dam safety inspections, hazard classifications, breach inundation mapping, Emergency Action Plans, Operation and Maintenance Plans, bathymetric and hydrographic survey, structural inspections, seepage analysis, stability analysis, and hydrology and hydraulic analyses.
We work with hydroelectric utilities, assisting with capital improvement plans, providing services to meet FERC requirements (such as Part 12D inspections and relicensing), improving facility safety for maintenance activities, developing operations and maintenance programs, performing emergency and forensic analysis, and providing construction phase services.
