Northfield Trail Wayfinding Plan

The Town of Northfield sought to improve wayfinding for public trail networks, parking, and access points. Serving mountain bikers, skiers, trail runners, hikers, and ROTC students, the Town Forest and Norwich University trails are located in mountainous terrain with accesses in a residential area and on University property. The town maintains a separate school trail network. D&K worked with the town, Norwich University, and other stakeholders to develop GIS data for mobile apps and services, such as OpenStreetMap and TrailFinder. The project team designed maps to be posted at kiosks and wayfinding signage. The project aimed to reduce parking pressure in residential areas and to assist trail users who enjoy the networks.
