Charles Johnston, PE, honored again

D&K’s Charles Johnston, PE, has received recognition from Vermont Business Magazine (VBM) as a Rising Star after receiving Young Engineer of the Year (YEOY) from the Vermont Society of Professional Engineers (VSPE) in February. He received honors from VBM and VSPE that highlight professionals in their 20s and 30s who have taken an “everything is important” approach to advancing their organizations, demonstrating innovation, and serving others.

The VBM Rising Star program recognizes 40 individuals under 40 years of age who demonstrate leadership within their organizations, help to maintain and advance their organizations’ standing, and take actions that meaningfully contribute to Vermont’s economy and communities. 10 years ago, Charlie began his journey at D&K as a staff engineer providing engineering for environmental, hazardous materials, public works, and civil engineering projects. His professional interests evolved into the areas of dam, hydraulic, and geotechnical engineering and was welcomed into D&K’s Dam Group, which he was recently tapped to lead.

Earlier this year, Charlie was honored with the title of Young Engineer of the Year by VSPE; YEOY annually highlights one Vermont-licensed professional engineer who progresses into leadership positions in his or her organization, advances their organization, and provides increasingly valuable contributions to the organization’s clients. Charlie has led and served as Engineer-of-Record on award-winning dam rehabilitation projects such as the Curtis Pond Dam in Calais, VT, and the Upper Wilson Pond Dam in Swanzey, NH. He is currently leading the rehabilitation design of four large earthen flood control dams for USDA-NRCS and the Town of Ludlow, VT.
